Centered around a crowed peninsula at the junction of the Yangzi and Jialing
rivers and surrounded by steep-sided hills, this Mountain City bursts with life
and oozes an atmosphere of spice and fire.Tracing its history right back into legend, Chongqing was capital of the
state of Ba when the mythical king Yu, tamer of floods, found a consort here,
and its name means double happiness. In 1997, Chongqing separated from Sichuan to become an independent prefecture
in its own right, known as Chongqing Municipality.
