Golmud Hotels

There is only one guesthouse which accepts foreigners in Golmud, the Golmud (157 Kunlun lu, Tel:0979-4120 -61/-62/-63/-64/-65/-66). The complex itself is divided into two sections, the more expensive hotel (Geermu binguan) and the cheaper hostel (Geermu zhaodaisuo).

The hotel, on the right as you look at the complex, has double rooms with baths that are RMB260. The hostel has six bed dorms with shared bathroom for RMB27, and triples for RMB33. Hot water runs between 9 and 11pm.

Additional facilities in the hotel include a laundry service, a mediocre restaurant, the Golmud Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC, Tel: 0979-414446) and the Golmud China International Travel Service (CITS, Tel: 0979-412746; Fax: 0979-413003). CITS is useful since it is the only method for buying tickets on to Tibet, and for obtaining a form for normal ticket prices on to the west. You may call long distance from the hotel reception, but this requires a deposit before you call and has a 10% service charge on top.

How to get there and away: The hotel is in the middle of Kunlun lu, and can be reached by taxi (around RMB5-10) from either the train or bus stations. From the train station there is also a bus, No.1, and a few minibuses that go direct to the hotel.
The CAAC office in the hotel has buses that run to and from the airport before any flight.
