Shengzhou Introduction

Shengzhou is located in the east of Zhejiang Province, close to Hangzhou to the north and Ningbo to the east. It belongs in the Changjiang River Delta Economic Zone and is one of the first group of economic open counties/cities in our country.

Shengzhou has a history of over 2150 years. As early as the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.), it was established as a county and slowly developed to become a city in August 1995. Shengzhou has always enjoyed the reputation of being "the best of the landscape of the southeast China, the first of the scene of Yue Kingdom". The calligrapher sage Wang Xizhi adores the mountains and waters here and lived in seclusion in his later years and died in Jinting Town. Many scholars such as Xie Lingyun, Li Bai, Du Fu, Zhu Xi, Lu You, and Dai Kui traveled here and left a lot of beautiful lines of poems and traces of visiting.

Now, the four scenic touring spots under construction, the Calligrapher Sage Park, the South Mountain Lake, Baizhangfeipu Waterfall and Ancient Chongren Town, are attracting a large number of tourists from the big cities such as Shanghai. It is also the home of Yueju opera, weiqi chess, necktie, bamboo weavings, tea, architecture. It has been listed into the national advanced cultural counties and the national advanced technology counties. The elegant bamboo weavings were used for gifts of Chinese government in foreign contacts.
