There is a big variety of hotels in Xining, but none of really first class quality or
service. Most of the hotels are fairly centrally located, near to the railway station and
long distance bus station. Within the city there is often the possibility that foreigners
will be charged more than Chinese, and in most cases this is non-negotiable. The hotels
listed below are in descending order of price. The Qinghai Hotel (Qinghai
binguan, Tel: 0971-6144888) at 20 Huanghe lu. This is the most upmarket
hotel in Xining, although it is one of the few hotels in the city that is a little far
from the action. The hotel is vast, with 395 rooms (most mod. cons.), a shopping arcade, a
Bank of China, a CITS branch and a gym.
The Xining Hotel (Xining binguan, Tel: 0971-8238701) at 215 Qiyi
lu. Although also a little far out, this hotel has some peaceful and nice gardens and
is cheaper than the Qinghai. There are 600 rooms, four restaurants, a health club and
business services here. Three bed dorms are upwards of RMB50, and nastier doubles start at
around RMB160.
The Xining Mansion (Xining dasha, Tel: 0971-8149995) near the
intersection of Bayi lu and Jianguo lu. A fairly decent two-star hotel
to the east of the Great Mosque. The
main branch of CITS is housed within. Doubles with a bath in the older building are
upwards of RMB50. In the newer building they are around RMB100.
The Qinghai Minzu Hotel (Qinghai minzu binguan,
Tel:0971-8225951) on Dongguan dajie, just west of Huyuan jie. A fairly
modern building that is central, has decent service and very cheap triples. Just to the
west of the Great Mosque. Triples
range from RMB20 to RMB50 depending on standards. Doubles are around RMB100.
The Yongfu Hotel (Yongfu binguan, Tel: 0971-8140236) near the Jianguo
lu/Binhe lu intersection and the Huangshui River, opposite
the bus station. This is the best of the cheaper hotels in town, with friendly service and
dorms for around RMB25.
The Youzheng Gongyu Hotel (Youzheng gongyu binguan, Tel:
0971-8140711) at 138 Huzhu lu. Fairly clean rooms, in a paradoxically grotty
hotel that is just to the east of the railway station. Dorms are around RMB20, doubles
with a bath for RMB38. |
