Since most of the tourist cities are located alongside the Shanghai-Lanzhou Railway, a
trip in Henan can usually be conducted along the railway. The main cities to visit run in
a east-west line, and a trip to all of them can be started from either end. The following
itinerary takes Kaifeng as the first step and ends in Luoyang. Day1: Arrive in Kaifeng
(From Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou or Beijing by train), visit Xiangguo Temple, Iron Pagoda, and the Jewish Ruins during
the afternoon. Stay in a Kaifeng hotel.
Day2: Visit Shanshangan Guild Hall in
the morning and shop in Imperial Song
Street in the afternoon. Take afternoon train or bus to Zhengzhou, using Kaifeng transport(one
hour). Visit Henan Provincial Museum
in the afternoon, stay in a Zhengzhou hotel.
Day3: Visit the Shang City Ruins and
the Temple of the City God in the
morning, take bus to the Yellow River Park
in the afternoon. Stay in Zhengzhou.
Day4: Take early bus to Dengfeng (Songshan) using Zhengzhou transport(2-3
hours). Check into Dengfeng
or Songshan hotel. Visit the Shaolin
Monastery and the Forest of Dagobas.
Return to hotel.
Day5: Visit the Zhongyue Temple and
the nearby Songyang Academy. Then head
to the Ancient Observatory in the
south of the town. Catch a late afternoon bus to Luoyang using Songshan transport (2
hours). Stay in Luoyang hotel.
Day6: Visit Baima Temple in the
morning, visit Ancient Tomb Museum and
the Wangcheng Park in the afternoon.
Stay in Luoyang.
Day7: Visit Longmen Caves in the
morning. Complete the Henan Tour. From Luoyang,
you may pursue further trips to Xi"an, Lanzhou or even Urumqi along the same
railway line. |
