Qinghai is not a good place to shop. The best of the souvenirs and handicrafts here are
those from Tibet, including some interesting knives, various cheap and
intricate bronze flagons, and coloured stones from the famous Kunlun
Mountain, on the borders of Qinghai and Tibet. Like with many areas around China,
the large cities, such as Golmud
and Xining, are a haven
to nomads from Tibet who loiter on street corners in there layers of course clothing
trying to sell anything from animal skins and skulls to large medallions. Really the only area that is consistently good for shopping is the capital Xining (see
the Xining Shopping
Overview). |
